Pan

Pan paced outside of Avery’s office back behind the grand staircase that stood proudly at the entrance of the library. He hated being forced to wait like this to see her and to have to talk to Crowe. Crowe had riled him up by saying he would find a way to get him to help send Zarya packing from the academy.

Like hell, he will.

He clenched his hands into fists as he turned.

Zarya was staying, and he was going to do everything he could to ensure that. He toyed with the idea of asking Zarya to banish Crowe. That would certainly eliminate him being an issue of him getting closer to Zarya, but, of course, it could well cause her to be kicked out of the academy by Avery, and that was what he was trying to avoid.

Pan smelled Avery approaching. Her powerful musky smell, full of pheromones, a power hit to his nostrils long before she made it down the last flight of stairs. He stood, arms folded across his chest while waiting for her, proud of how quickly he’d found someone else to bring into the fold.

“That was quick,” said Avery as she marched toward him. Her high heels clicking on the polished floor, the tunic she wore was long at the back, scoping below her knees and flowed outward with her movement.

Crowe hovered behind with a grumpy expression, as always, on his face.

Pan nodded sharply. “I was focused.” Of course, he didn’t tell her that he was perhaps lucky, and if he hadn’t been thirsty for beer, then he might not have found Holly. He gave a dark stare to Crowe, thinking the ghost must not have anything better to do with his time other than follow Avery around like a lap dog.

Avery unlocked her office with a magic spell, the lock clicking open with ease. She pushed the dark wooden door open and motioned for him to come inside.

Pan sauntered into the darkened room. The stained-glass image of the angel caught his eye. The blue hues behind it illuminating its form in the late afternoon light. A homage to The Guild’s beliefs they were the ones to build and fill the library with unique books to help all paranormals, before then closing it to a select few witches. He did wonder how Avery managed to be the one in charge of it now, but then again, in a way, such matters didn’t concern him.

The stained-glass window of the innocent-looking angel always caught his attention. Power and innocent, endogenous, and everything that the academy wasn’t. Avery had made that clear to him when she first brought him here only two weeks ago. Most of the students hadn’t been here long. Yet, it felt so much longer. He was healing, learning, and growing, faster than he thought possible.

Crowe hovered to one side as if a personal guard to Avery.

Avery waved her hand, and candles under the stained-glass window lit, their small flames flickering in a dance of orange light. The Tiffany lamp on her desk turned on, adding to the moody atmosphere of her office.
